Safety

Basic rules for a smooth trip.

Nature and weather

Weather on Baikal changes quickly even in summer: bring warm and waterproof clothing. Wear a life vest on the water, never step onto the ice without a guide in winter, and respect the lake's power.

Health

Get travel insurance. In remote areas medical help may be far away — carry a first-aid kit, tick and sun protection. If possible, get a tick-borne encephalitis vaccination in advance.

Connectivity and navigation

Mobile coverage is reliable in cities and weaker in the mountains and along the shore. Download offline maps, and tell someone your route and expected return time.

Protected areas

Some routes cross national parks — a permit and following the rules are required. Don't leave litter, don't light fires outside designated spots, and protect the fragile, protected wildlife.

Emergency services

The single emergency number is 112. Save it along with your guide's or tour operator's contacts before heading out.
